Historical background The construction of the castle started in the early 13th century. The round towers standing at the angles of the fortifications date back to the same period. The central part, presently inhabited, was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1660 the LAGEARD acquired the vineyard and they have been farming it themselves since then. The Château was classified until the 9th edition in 1922 of the "Cocks and Ferret" among the Saint-Emilionais Crus Bourgeois. |

The vineyard Château Flojague is situated on the plateau continuing the Saint-Emilion vineyards to the East, in geological terms on the higher part of the parish of Saint-Genès de Castillon. The vineyard, is one single holding, lays relatively flat and has a reddish brown soil (due to the alteration of limestone). It derives its originality from the subsoil composed of asteriated limestone which permits ideal drainage and perfect hygrometric regulation of the soil. |
